Natural Cures For Sinus Infection
Falling sick occasionally is a part of living. While some of the infections that we may catch can be severe, many are milder such as sinusitis. Here you will find that sinusitis is divided into chronic sinusitis and acute sinusitis, outlined in more detail in some of our other articles. Whilst there are a range of conventional medicine treatments available for both types of sinusitis, some people are wary of these, in case they may have side effects and prefer to look to more natural remedies when suffering with more minor infections such as sinusitis.
A number of more natural remedies have been tried over the years to treat sinus infections and the simplest of these has been steam inhalation. This involves placing a towel over your head. Make sure the towel creates a tent which is formed between you and a pot of steaming hot water. Obviously care must be taken when using very hot water. You then breath in deeply through your nostrils, inhaling the steam which moistens and helps liquify the mucus blocking your nose and sinuses.
In addition to performing this with just water a number of substances can be added to the water to enhance its effects, such as a few drops of peppermint or some mentholated preparation cam be added to the steaming water, the soothing vapors from this steam can help ease your symptoms and can be genarally very relaxing. It is fair to say, however, that when looked at scientifically the evidence of effectiveness of many of thesetreatments is often not completely convincing, however many people do report a subjective feeling of benefit using inhalational techniques in sinusitis.
Other more natural remedies that have been tried in sinusitis include herbal substances, which can be taken by mouth or inhaled in steam inhalations or as nasal sprays. Homeopathy, a discipline where natural substances are used, which have been found to have illness relieving properties, in very tiny amounts. Tthese have also become fairly popular amongst some people to treat sinusitis.
Nasal irrigation using saline solutions has also been tried, to flush the sinuses and help clear mucus and infections. A number of irrigation devices and solutions can be purchased to assist with doing this.
It is therefore possible in sinus infections to at least gain some relief from your symptoms using natural remedies, which will make the suffering from this infection easier to bear.
